The True Cost of Freedom

"O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!"

This nation will probably never be able to repay the debt it owes to its veterans, especially those who gave their last full measure of devotion.

Merry Christmas, my friend.

Merry Christmas to you as well. I saw this picture and hit that little spot in the center of my chest that makes me tear up. The first thought that came to mind was John 15:13

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

We can never repay the debt that others have paid in blood. We can only honor their sacrifice by our behavior and by our devotion to the cause they gave their all for.
